From The Heart
We here at Calvary Chapel of Anacortes have
been given a mission just as every other Christian church. The problem is that
many churches do not follow Jesus ’ commands for the Church.
We here a Calvary Chapel are trying to live the life that He commanded and to
serve Him as our Lord and Savior. We are a church that lives by faith and what
I mean by that is that we do not have programs to go by to grow our church and
we do not try to please people by having short services or candy coating the
truth etc.. We are trying to please our Lord and Savior in all we do. We at
Anacortes Calvary Chapel hold to the great commission in Matthew 28 . Which is to preach the gospel in Anacortes
, in our state, in our country and to all the world. We are doing this
by reaching out to our community and to
We started as a bible study in October 2001
on Saturday nights. In October 2002 we moved to Sunday mornings. We believe
that God adds to the Church as He sees fit. That it is not a work of man but
the will of God. We teach verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book. We believe that the whole council of God
should be taught. Jesus has come as a light unto the world and we will live as
His light. God has called His children to follow by faith. I feel that there
are many today that do not follow by faith at all .
They follow by there own reasoning and wisdom. The scriptures say that men’s
wisdom is but a snare and Gods wisdom leads to righteousness, ( just read Proverbs) . We believe that God does His
greatest work through faith. If the church is not based on faith then His
foundation is built on the sand. But if it is built on faith then it is strong
and built on the rock (
We are called to be His servants. To be a
Christian is to follow Gods will for your life, and that is to be a servant. In
John 13:1-20, Jesus washed the disciples feet to set a
example for them to do. That was not meaning to wash each others feet all the
time but more so it was meant to be a servant to God and others. It was a servants roll in a household to wash the guests feet when
they came in from out side. The streets in those days where made of dirt and
there was no garbage service so much of it was thrown in the street. They wore
sandals in those days so the feet would become very dirty and would even smell.
So it was customary in those day to clean the guests
feet. So the disciples did not want to lower themselves to a servants roll.
Jesus in the act of becoming that servant was saying that they needed to be a
servant. Jesus said to them that they cannot be greater than there master (Him)
and if He was to do this, they must also. That is, to be a servant to Him and
His children. But in the call to be a servant we are to hold onto His promises
and to act in faith upon them. The statement below is one I have given to the
board that applies to all of us and I would like you to read it:
This year I do not want to maintain what we
have but to expand our vision. This is the act of faith. The act of faith is to
look at what God wants and to strive for it, as it is going to happen. If it is
Gods will He will supply. I am not going to follow my wisdom (mans wisdom) but
Gods. This will mean that we need to be in prayer a lot so that we know what
God wants. The Bible makes statements of what we should be
doing the only thing to pray for is how he wants us to do it. He wants
us to do it in faith and trust that He will provide the means. You have to
remember that our God the only True God that created this big universe is for
us and not against us. He will supply as long as it is in His will.
God does not want us to go about this slowly
or keep it small. He gave us promises that we are to expect great things from
Him and that all things are possible. I find that the only thing He requires
from us is that we are in His will and that we are doing it for His glory.
There is nothing stopping us to do a great work for Him except ourselves. I
know that I want hundreds and thousands to come to know Him and I know He wants
the same (I wish all would be saved and none would perish He says) . We are also called to make disciples of men and that is
not just some of us, but He made that in the context that all of us that are in
Christ should be making disciples. We are all called to do that
, and that is from the point of conversion to the point they are ready
to make disciples.
We have a great work ahead of ourselves and
the only thing that can stop us is ourselves!
This is our vision and our heart which is the
vision and heart of God. There is much more, but it is all found in the Bible
and the commands that Jesus gave. We are Gods workmanship and He will mold us
and shape us as He wants, through the work of the Holy Spirit. It is not by our
works that we are saved or transformed, but it is by His Grace that all things
happen in our lives. I will always err on the side of Grace and not on the side
of legalism.
Your Servant in Christ,
Pastor Kenneth Romer
